For lovers of sport fishing, the territory of Villanova is the ideal place to enjoy the activities on the sea and on the lake. The lake of Monteleone, a medium-sized reservoir created by damming the River Temo, is about 7 km long and just over 3 km wide in the central part. It lies at the foot of the hill of Su Monte, where the town of Monteleone Rocca Doria is located, so named because it was the stronghold of the Doria family of Genoa who built a castle in this area around about 1400.
The lake is full of fishes because it is still not well known. The waters are inhabited by black basses, (also known as largemouth basses), perch, carps, tenches, eels and minor species. Enjoy the variety of this area passing from freshwater to saltwater in the beach of Poglina (Villanova Monteleone), an unspoilt inlet located in the North of Sardinia. The crystal clear waters and the white sandy beach are the ideal destination for numerous fishermen who go in search of quiet places where getting in touch with nature and with the sea.
Sport fishing is open from May 1st to October 31st, the biological rest period starts from November 1st to February 28th. For fishing, the Licenza Regionale A.I (regional fishing license) is required, but licenses of other regions are accepted.
